The Sound Of Life Storytelling Awards were created to recognize powerful visual storytelling and to share the importance of thinking beyond the obvious as journalists.

RULES:

this contest is open to all sound of life storytelling workshop attendees. You must be registered for the workshop at the time of entry. each attendee may enter up to two free entries. an attendee's name may be on more than two entries, if a co-worker is the primary entrant.

 

Entries must have aired between April 1, 2017-march 31, 2018. you may choose any two categories or enter twice in the same category. Stories cannot be entered in more than one category, Though a story can be repeated if used in a compilation for solo journalist, reporter or photojournalist of the year. there may be no more than 20% of full screen file video in a single story or compilation.

 

Entries must be submitted via a youtube or vimeo link. You may submit the air check or raw version of your entry. 

 

Entries are due by july 29, 2018. finalists will be announced before the 2018 sound of life storytelling workshop. winners will be announced throughout the workshop. all winners will receive one trophy. duplicates may be purchased after the workshop.

Student - anyone enrolled in college and not working at a tv station

Spot News - 3:00 time limit - A single contained package covering unfolding, breaking news. Story must have been produced within a single shift. The Names on the entry may include any Reporter, Photojournalist or editor involved.

General News - 3:00 time limit - A single contained package covering a daily story that would not be considered spot news or a feature. Story must have been produced within a single shift. The Names on the entry may include any Reporter, Photojournalist or editor involved.

Feature - 10:00 time limit - A single contained package covering a feature story that is light or serious in nature. The Names on the entry may include any Reporter, Photojournalist or editor involved.

Newscast - 60:00 time limit - A full newscast embracing visual storytelling to create a memorable newscast. many people are involved in the production of a newscast, so this will be awarded to the station.

Photojournalist Of The Year - 15:00 time limit - This should be a compilation of three stories, including spot news, general news and feature. there should be one photojournalist's name on the entry.

Reporter Of The Year - 15:00 time limit - This should be a compilation of three stories, including spot news, general news and feature. the reporter should not have shot the stories on the entry. in the student division, the reporter may have shot the stories. there should be one Reporter's name on the entry.

Solo Journalist Of The Year - 15:00 time limit - This should be a compilation of three stories, including spot news, general news and feature. the solo journalist must have written, shot and edited all stories on the entry. there should be one solo journalist's name on the entry.
